Planning News Update...

Changes to Permitted Development
October 2008

On 1 October 2008 a new Permitted Development Order came into force.

Permitted development governs the changes that can be made to an existing house without the need for a planning application to be submitted to the local planning authority. The changes will reduce the need for people to apply for planning permission for straightforward home improvements such as loft conversions or extensions while still protecting the interests of neighbours, the wider community and the environment.

In some local areas permitted development rights are more restricted. Therefore if you live in a Conservation Area you will still need to apply for planning permission for certain types of work which do not need an application in other areas. There are also different requirements if the property is a listed building.

D&M Planning are now advising clients on these changes so please contact us if you would like more information.
